Bon Voyage

When was the last time I left town for more than a day or two? As best I can remember, it was the last time I taught witch camp in England, so that's at least five or six years. I've travelled a bit in order to take continuing education classes (a requirement to stay licensed as an M.T.) I've taken one day trips to NYC or up to my friend's cabin in W. Virginia, but a real trip? Not in a long time.

As Jake aged and became more finicky, I felt bad entrusting his care to my roommates (even though they were always fine doing it). During this last year, I was really loathe to leave his side even for one night. It's all part of what happens with an elderly pet - if you're me, that is. I had to fuss over my aging dog every single day; I don't regret it.

Yesterday I bought a ticket that will take me way out of DC. At the end of August, I'm going to spend six days and five nights in California (in San Francisco and Lake Tahoe). Six days and five nights outside of DC. WOW!!

I can't wait to see my friends in the city and at the lake, can't wait to take in the blue light and blue air of San Francisco, but especially I am looking forward to reconnecting with Lake Tahoe.**

Am I blubbering like an idiot? Yes? Well, that's good. A real vacation! I'm going to take a real vacation. Wow. Things are turning around. Cheers and l'chaim, y'all. Have a great weekend!

How exciting for you. We haven't taken a vacation in so long I really can't remember the last time we traveled when some work wasn't involved.

hi reya, your picture of leaves transforming from deep green almost lost in the shadows to shining white - a white so white as to disappear into the air - between two little metal hands-on-hips people with arrowhead hats. protecting the transformation from dark to light. there's a story being told. have a peaceful day. steven

wonderful, a holiday's always a good idea :) hope you have a great time. And yes you're right, everyone should do two years in each job. :) i tried to do some time in a kitchen (almost a waiter) but i was sacked for being a very slow and bad cook. Ah well. Roll on the two years on a super easy well paid job.

Good for you! It reminds me that I'm overdue for a trip to the Bay Area, too...maybe this fall.

I wonder if we can get away to the Sonoma area for a wee trip this Fall? You've got me thinking!

I am so glad for you that you are getting about again. I know how you feel about not leaving an aging pet. I just never wanted to be gone if they should pass. I am so excited for you. It is wonderful out here right now. Hot!!! But still wonderful. Cheers.

That's great! We didn't vacation this year because of the move (& I don't count traveling back home to see the fam) but I hope we can get somewhere next year...

Girl,
It's time to get out of town. DC is sweltering in August. I think you will find San Fran a breath of fresh air.

A trip is always restorative and opens up a new pathway, too.

This post speaks to me as my aging Bandit (now 15) has gone through some rough stuff as of late, and I can't imagine leaving her. She is such a tough cookie. I am so sorry for your loss. Jake couldn't have had a better friend than you. Happy holiday to you!

I'd love the chance to meet you while you're here, but I think I may be out of town just as you arrive.

Carers of people, pets, deserve all sorts of medals for their selflessness. Oh boy, have you earned this Reya, and the thrill of the journey will be in relation to the restrictions of work committments and confinement that you have experienced with dear Jake.To truly appreciate something, it has to be hard to come by,earnt,or always just beyond reach.I think you will be bestowed with many blessings on this journey - this one and those to come. Enjoy. xxx

Hi Reya,

The Doc took out the pain shunt thingy yesterday, so experiencing bad pain right now, but I am so happy and thankful that you are going to take a vacation and visit friends here in CA. That is also such a great time to visit in that part of CA.

Just enjoy your time with no responsibilities, be carefree, run with the wind, sail on the water, laugh, jump with joy, and remember that nothing will make Jake happier than to see you taking such a richly deserved vacation. Every smile you see will be sent from him sharing in your enjoyment, just ask Grandpa and the others.

And one of those smiles is from me, being so happy for you.

Thank you so much for the healing energy and love, I am sharing it with you too.

Pretty good, typing with one hand here, but Doc says I need to use my shoulder as much as I can to heal faster. It will be PT time for me, starting in a week or two. Thankfully grandkids are here taking care of me and will not coddle me too much. Forcing me to do things will be good for my healing.

I am sending healing vibes your way too.

God bless and lots of love coming your way.

Lucky you! My favourite American city is San Francisco, and Lake Tahoe is a dream place to visit. Cousins have a summer residence there.

I ditto Steven's comment about the transition in the photo. This trip will be fabulous for you. I expect to see photos and a recap of your adventures when you return, as do your other visitors.

Dear Reya,
I hope you do see stars at Tahoe. I lived there for about 9 months in the 70's. I don't remember the stars too much as there is a lot of ambient light there.

However, if you want to drive a few miles (250) to where I live in Oregon you can see LOTS of stars and THE MILKY WAY. I had almost forgotten there was one until we moved here from Portland. The sky looks like someone splattered it with diamonds and then did a few curving brush strokes of the Milky Way. It is beautiful.

Hope you have a wonderful time and I'm serious about turning North and coming to visit.
