Excuses

It's cold today, much colder than it has been yet this season. The temperature is hovering just above freezing. To make matters more challenging, Brother Wind is flying around, shooting his airy daggers right and left. Sometimes the wind is so rude! Brrrr. The day before yesterday it was warm and balmy, which is why today is such a shock.

One of my core beliefs centers around the importance of spending time outdoors every day, even when I think it's "too cold" (or too hot, too rainy, too windy, too humid, etc.) So I got out there, briefly I'll admit, even though animal-Reya was against it. In my bones and blood, all I wanted was a day of hibernation.

I walked the dog and also trudged to and from the location of the Zipcar I drove to the supermarket. So at least I saw one little slice of this cold autumn day. I tried to enjoy it, tried to do my usual thing, looking around, taking pics, you know. Eventually I gave up. I wasn't having any fun.

Jake slept most of the day. I've been reading and doodling. In awhile I'm going to make zucchini bread, then later on a simple dinner of grilled chops, rice and vegetables. Indoor pursuits aren't the worst way to spend a day.

As soon as I adjust to the freezing air, I'll remember why I enjoy winter so much, won't I? Sure I will. OK, I admit it, I wimped out. Mea culpa!

The lime green was an unfortunate choice. Oh well.

I'd say that's a bit beyond "doodling"! I don't know about that lime green; I rather like it in there.

That doodle is so cool. Your presentation is very clever. Bravo!

As I walked from Penn Station to school this morning holding my cup of coffee I noticed snowflakes falling here and there! The combined with the bitter cold ushered me on my way - staying close to the coffee cup for whatever warmth it might provide, which wasn't much.

Still, there is nothing that says 'wake up' quite like a stiff, cold wind. And wake up I did.

cool doodle dear.

I saw a ton of lime green today. I had to be in Annapolis and stopped by Homestead Gardens to get some funky Christmas shots.

We were working outside all morning today, freezing our butts off. It was so windy! Burrr!!!
What is Jake looking at?

Jake had a tough day yesterday. I think the change in the weather got him in his funky shoulder and hips. He hardly ate anything, didn't bark much, and looked miserable. In the pic I believe he is experiencing the humiliation he always exhibits when I take his picture, and trying to get comfortable.

Cube I LOVE your funky Christmas pics. Sooooo looking forward to your holiday post(s). They're always genius.

Gary, my dah-ling, stay warm! I hope you wear a hat when it gets so cold.

I love the expression "freezing our butts off," BTW.

Tut, do you recognize the shape of the doodle? It's the soul retrieval schematic.

To all in the northern hemisphere, stay warm today. To my dear ones in Africa, stay dry!

The White Giant of the North cleanses the world, and he's marching into town a bit early. Or so it seems.

And the lime green is the prankster. There's magic in the "mistakes"...

Well done, hon.

That explains both his posture and the look on his face. I hope the days ahead are more comfortable for him.

I find it hard not to take the wind personally. The doodle reminds me of Saul Steinberg.

Butternot squash soup is also good for the cold weather.

But Reya, you did enjoy the weather -- you just did it from inside, which is the best way to enjoy winter weather!

I like the lime green, BTW.

Love the doodle... Mother nature tricked me today with ample sunshine streaming through the windows... still I was dressed warm enough to walk for a little over an hour . Layering is the way to go, and I wear a hat which helps 100%

i feel the same about getting outside every day. i don't always manage it - but if i don't, i'm def. the worse for it

our weathers all over the place at the moment tho - jumping from 7/8' then up to 13or 14, then back down...

a person never knows what to wear!

The shifting movement of your doodle dazzles and dazes the eyes; if it is classifiable into anything, i'll say it is a art nouveau piece.
