Sun Dance

Solstice day in Washington DC was crystal clear. The air was clean, the sky was a tastefully pale shade of blue, and Brother Sun was glorious, celestial, silvery. What a guy! I love Brother Sun. Since I like to think about the world this way, I decided it was a great portent for the solar year ahead.

Though yesterday was again packed full of activity, and later on, revelry, I took as much time as I could to think about the experience of being pierced through the heart; about how, for a few perfect moments my heart was in a precise alignment with the hearts of the galactic center, sun, earth and moon, thanks to the arrow-dragon, (or was it a dragon-arrow?) of the eclipse.

The alignment continues to resonate for me, even though the heavenly bodies, as well as my own human body, have moved quite a ways since then, and the dragon-arrow has sped away to realms unknown. What I feel is a closer kinship with the sun and moon, more love even than I already had for this beautiful planet where I live, and for the precious existence of life in this form.

The way I ordinarily frame eclipses is in terms of the moon or sun being swallowed by shadows or dark beings, only to re-emerge unscathed and victorious. The impact of eclipses usually feels dire to me, but not this time. It was calming and reassuring, strengthening, enlightening - even grounding. Really surprising, very weird.

I am full of wonder, still too full of the sensation to begin interpreting my experience. The one thought I had was that an arrow through the heart is ordinarily about Cupid, right? If this applies, then - whoa - what a hulkin' dude of a Cupid that dragon-arrow is! Wow.

Love to all! Happy new solar year to those in the northern hemisphere, happy summer to my friends who live on the other side of the world. Shalom.

The lighting in that first image is beautiful. I posted about light today. Oddly, we had a cloudy day here in Phoenix, which is unusual for us - even a few spits of rain.

when you speak brother sun, tell him mouse would like to see him around her hood! love snow, but love sunshine on the snow even more!!!!

the white marble of the capital and statues goes so well with that tastefully pale blue!

It was a tasteful scene, definitely!

Hey, Kim, the sun is your brother, too. Maybe he'll listen to you - he does whatever he damn well wants, no matter what my opinion is.

reya, last night the house was flying with energy! i got up at three and motored right on through figuring whatever was needing my attention that badly probably deserved a little company!! brother sun was tucked in back of a good thick heap of clouds but tickled the eyes like a backstage flashlight every so often. sort of like a camp wink. i'm looking forward to seeing way more of him - a little bit at a time - especially the early morning bro who shows up orange and salmony pink these days. steven

Does this mean Cupid is headed your way? Who knows what this solar new year will bring to you?

I have begun reading The Feminine Mystique. It is fascinating; how have I missed this? It is causing me to actually think about what I do on many different levels. What is funny to me is how well I fit the feminine mystique in some ways and how asinine it is to presume that every woman would/should feel that way. I also completely understand how that ideal came to be. She really does have a lovely way of clearly explaining her point, doesn't she?

Whitney I'm so glad you're reading it. It is a period piece, definitely but really explains so clearly how and why the women's movement of the 60's and 70s came to be, and why that movement was so intense.

Very cool.

Cupid's arrow? whoa is right! See, I've been telling you, you've moved into your own place to make space.

Happy new year! Mayhaps the arrow is about romantic love in store for you? Hm.... :) May it be a wonderful year, no matter what it brings.
