One foot in front of the other, through the holidaze

T-day weekend is over. Thank the lord God! Not only will today be a "normal" day of work (no family souls to work with, just regular individuals ... ahhh), but the energy within which I move and live will shift from that hyper-whatever wall of energy that is characteristic of holidays, back to the usual craziness of this beautiful, powerful, wounded city in which I live.

I could tell almost to the minute when the energy shifted last night. Everyone was back in front of their computers, ipads and iphones, hacking back into their email and facebook accounts. The internet was so jammed I couldn't even get on last night after 8:00 p.m. EST. Sometimes it's healthy to get tossed out of cyberspace (does anyone still call it "cyberspace" ??) I spent my evening looking at Christmas cookie recipes, contemplating the possibility of getting a tiny Christmas tree. Should I?

Happy Monday, y'all. Shalom.

oh the frenzy is just beginning.

I always loved christmas trees though I don't put one up. I'd collect those blown glass german ornaments if I had a way to show them off.

I don't own a single ornament, so it would be a very small, nice smelling tree with lights. Tastefully plain, eh?

Joanne I'm leaning towards doing it. Why not?

A definite yes on the tree; join the madness. I think I'm going to have a tabletop tree this year myself. I'm not sure I'm up to chasing the baby away from the tree for a month...

I almost don't want to tell you that 2 of my 4 trees are already up. We do 3 in the living room with just white lights (don't want to be too over the top ha) and one white tree that I decorate in the kitchen. I say if you're considering it, do it. You don't need ornaments, just like you it will be classic and lovely.

YES to the nice pagan tree......

tree is good decorations should be optional.......

cookies:

one stick butter
4 oz sugar in the raw
1 tsp vanilla
2 eggs
I tsp salt
6 oz flour

then add
chocolate chips
walnuts
oatmeal

teaspoon out onto nonstick foil
bake 350' for 15 mins

any other stuff you have hanging around......

It is the raw sugar that makes then crunchy
and the BUTTER that makes them yummy

A little tree would be nice- they smell so good- make ornaments like I did- anything will do- napkins from take out can do amazing things for a tree. Last year my "tree" was a wire frame I found in the garage- with lights on it it thought it was speshul....It was happy for once in it's homely wire life! "Tasteful" at christmas - um, I am all for tacky over the top BS myself- just like the contrivance of christmas is- a most bizarre holiday when you think about it. Pagans had it right- pretty much. Since that is where the TREE comes in it is acceptable- decorate with fruit or bits from nature maybe...That would be tasteful and respectful to all that is not this silly season.

Yes yes yes to the tree! You can turn the lights on in a dark room & lie on your back & look at the "light lace" on the ceiling.

Yes you should, and decorate it with cookies! You've just helped me make the decision to get my own tiny tree. I wasn't going to...

Such good comments on this post! It makes me happy just to read them.

Pauline took the words out of my mouth...make the cookies, then decorate the tree with them. Unless you have mice, then opt for inedible decor!

Whatever you choose, make your holiday as unique and beautiful as you are.

Wow!! I am totally sold on the tree. Thanks to all.

I'm thinking I'll go pick up some twigs, acorns and other found objects, spray them with glitter paint and decorate the tree with them. There WILL be photodocumentation.

Thanks so much for the encouraging comments. I'm jazzed!!

Napkins from take out? Linda Sue, you would have to coach me through that one.

I vote for YES on the small tree! You could even get one in a pot that can be planted after the holidaze! :) They really are a wonderful presence to have in the house, and such a visceral reminder that life comes back...
