Just call me "Your Majesty"

From a review posted on Donna Henes's site:

In The Queen of My Self, Donna Henes boldly and audaciously — as any Queen worth her salt would do — challenges the popular paradigm of the three phases in a woman’s life, that of Maiden, Mother, Crone. Henes is all for celebrating a woman’s midlife achievements. However, she suggests a new archetype be introduced (instead of jumping the gun from mother to crone), that of "the Queen."

I really love the idea of being in my Queenship right now. Yeah. It is true that we 50-somethings are not yet old ladies, but neither are we still in the mother phase of life. The term "middle-aged" does not adequately describe this age either, since not all of us are planning to live to the age of 110. But to be in our queenship? Oh yeah!! I am way into this idea.

Now, all I need is a crown. And my own fiefdom. Or perhaps a fiefdomette? Yeah!

Thanks, Renee, for turning me on to this idea.

This made me laugh, because my daughter sent me a Hoops and YoYo Mother's Day e-card where they chanted "oh my queen" over and over! It was the cutest thing ever.

We just need crowns. We do!

You have a tiara, don't you? Maybe you should put it on to complete your queenly image. What a nice idea to sail into old age regally!

I would rather have a garland than a crown (the crown would hurt my head) - but I DEFINITELY want a scepter!

Oh yes--so much better than Princess!

I have been known to wear a tiara on my birthday or while doing housework. Long live the Queen!

ack! now we'll all need gifts and written permission for an audience with the queen! All hail Queen Reya!
p.s, get one of those LED tiaras with chasing lights.

Hmmm, Queenship... I like it!

a felted garland crown would suit you well. Comfy and light so that you are not hindered in your royal duties, waving and keeping your chin at the proper angle.

LInda Sue - YES. Wow.

Of course I'm not the only queen around here ... many of us can hold the title simultaneously. It's the Age of Aquarius and long live the queens!

I'm going with the Queen phase, too. No need to bow down, just throw roses

Definitely agree that the title of crone is a bit harsh for women our stage during this time of Aquarius.

But the title of "Queen" is reserved just for we women, right? The men, shall they be known as Kings?

Reya Mellicker said...

Ronda it's an interesting question. They aren't old guys yet. So what are they?

I don't think that I have ever been called queen, but I have been referred to as goddess on occaision. Come over and see me wearing my garland crown. I kid you not!

Oh dear! At nearly eighty I've just discovered I'm a crone! You've really made my day! (Luckily I'm great at self-deception!)

Oooooo, I LIKE it!

Wow. You REALLY touched a nerve here, Reya. I think this idea resonates with all women who have felt a new phase emerging between motherhood and old age. THIS makes perfect sense!

My wife is bossy enough as a crone, so I think I will leave off mentioning the queen idea.
