Cheap Thrills
For a long time I've believed that the secret to a happy life is the ability to celebrate cheap thrills, everyday miracles, little things - you know what I'm talking about, yes? If you save yourself for the happiness that comes from big wow moments like the inauguration, true love, retirement or a trip to exotic locales, most of life is sure to be depressing or at least boring.
Today's cheap thrill is SNOW! Real snow, maybe four inches of it. This is DC's first snow of the season, and though the flakes weren't those perfect six pointed stars, and even if it didn't snow a lot, and even knowing that tomorrow we're in for a terrible day of slush and ice, even so, today was precious and even thrilling, in a cheap way of course.
Thank you so much, Julz, for doing your native Floridian snow dance. It really worked!
Bravo!!

Isn't snow the bee's knees? It's snowing here right now and I can't stay in my seat. I keep wandering over to the window, lost in all those flakes. Winter was made to be white!!!!
Hooray! You finally got your snow! Four inches is pretty darned good. I just hope your happy snow doesn't mess up my departure from NJ to sunny Mexico tomorrow! :) I love snow, but not when I want to travel!
Hmmm..just the first time to get snow in Dc..I should send you some from Canada..
Yippee, snow!!! And weren't you just the other day lamenting there was no snow in D.C.? We may get ice tonight, but alas, probably no snow.
I love nature.
Today's messy (and lovely) snow could have fallen last week on top of two million people. It was cold last week, but the sky was clear. No one got wet. Wow.
Happy Snow Day! And you are right, it came one week after millions of people gathered for the ceremony. Two million really cold people is better than two million wet, cold, snow covered people.
It's about time you guys got some snow!
Snow is what makes the cold worthwile.
I love nature, too. It always amuses me when people roll their eyes when the weather is discussed. Please! We are in the ultimate co-dependent relationship with the weather! The weather is everything to us!
Maybe it's because I've never had much of it, but I find snow totally enchanting. Really; it makes me giddy.
Blessed are those who can get off on a cheap thrill!
I thought of trying to warn you about being careful of what you ask for. . .but decided against it because you are formidable, because you walk instead of drive.
So I delight with you in your first snow, as I delighted in the first one of a long, cold, white Midwest winter--when even my Volvo is too cold to start.
I wish you warmth, happiness, and the thrill of snowfall in every day and much love.
The weather gods finally heard you, Reya. Enjoy!
What books are you reading about consciousness and the brain?
Great photos...
Cheap thrills and small blessings that are all around us if we only choose to see them...that's what makes life thrilling, worth while and an experience to treasure. I try to enjoy my 'cheap thrills' every day.
Great photos.
Good for you!
Way too much snow where I reside. But I try to reframe and do some meditating or deep thinking while I shovel, shovel, shovel. I am a quasi Steeler fan but what I really noticed when the team disembarked in Tampa, Florida, was the tree in front of the airport. It had so much character and intrigue. My way of leading up to saying "love your tree photos!"
What a great photo. I'm glad you got some snow.
snow...Snow...SNow...SNOW!! Glad you finally got some. We have four inches on the ground and are bracing for a possible 11 more inches tonight and through tomorrow morning! I love these cheap thrills.
We're expecting 5-8 inches of fresh snow tonight and tomorrow here in New England. I'll toss a snowball your way!
Oh my gosh, that snow is beautiful. I am thinking right now of the smell and taste of fresh snow, and it is breaking my heart. In a good way. I'm glad winter deigned to show her true face before Imbolc arrived.
So glad you got your snow. I know how you feel about the "thrill" of it, I think I was feeling the same way the other night with the thunder and the hail, so I woke up my granddaughter to tell her about it. She was not happy, but I was. I just opened the front door and was standing there watching it for a few minutes. Hope more snow comes your way soon.
Keep warm though.
oh i lOVE snow - so happy for you - enjoy xx
Hoo-ray for cheap thrills. Especially the kind you need to shovel later.
You're so very welcome; I'm glad it worked... I am sorry that you've had to navigate your way through subsequent ice however. Good luck!
Snow! I happen to love the white stuff. The more the better! Enjoy your winter blast, Reya! :-)
happiness in little things, absolutely
an essential truth
