Holiday Season? I say Bring It!

I love the end of daylight savings time, love having that "extra" hour in the morning. I love being able to stay in bed until the sun actually rises. There's something so wrong about getting up while it's still dark, at least my body thinks so.

Later today I will hate the end of daylight savings time, because at 5:30 it will be completely dark even though the sun did not set until 6:30 yesterday. It always feels a little bit rude to me for a few days, until I adjust.

Halloween was cheerful here on Capitol Hill. There were lots of trick or treaters early on, but a nice steady rain later in the evening discouraged the people who come out later, a very good thing since the cute little kids walk the streets early while after 8:00 or so the people ringing the doorbell are always scary looking teenagers who don't even bother to put on costumes.

Seeing little kids in their outfits is always such a hoot but even funnier, to me, is to see adult Washingtonians, always so reserved and blah in appearance (no offense to anyone, but DC is not about flair or style), decked out in funny clothing and outrageous make-up.

Halloween was fun, but it's over now which means in the U.S. we are officially launched into the holiday season. Soon I will have to dust off my Hugh Grant movies, get them queued up and ready to watch. Strangely I am not dreading the holidays this year. In fact, I have a good feeling about them. I might enjoy the holidays this year, I really might. Go figure!

I hope you do enjoy the holidays; although sometimes it can be difficult. This is my month... I love November!

Ringing in the holiday season here ... We just bought tix for a New Years Eve concert, can't believe that time is here already! Lots of great energy in the air.

The end of the year is rushing upon us.

I'm not an early riser so I much prefer that extra hour of daylight in the evenings. The thing I like the least about winter is the short days. Another reason I could not live up north.

I don't know how I feel about the holidays approaching. It is usually our busiest time of the year work-wise and with three jobs it's holding true again.

We are all about the wet leaves and the dark mornings here! I didn't woke up until 8:30 this morning and it was still pretty dark. I should have taken more leaf pictures this week because the wind last night whipped most of them off.

Personally, I've also thought that Christmas preparations were invented to help get us through November. I'm intrigued to learn that you have a bit of a thing for Hugh Grant.

And you will come to NY on the Bolt bus and go to the Rubin and wander about with me!
Happy Holidays too.

YES Elizabeth, that will certainly enhance my experience of the holidays.

Bee - I really don't have a Hugh Grant thing, except a the holidays I love watching his movies. They're all so perfect at that time of year. Soon after New Year's, I forget all about him until Halloween the following year. I can't explain it. His films are like a tonic for me or something. Who knows?

Dr. M and I are ambivalent - looking forward to having a house (& yard!) to decorate, yet not sure how things will go with his mom in a nursing home. And he's turning 50 in 2 weeks! That last part blows me away - we're such kids at heart...

Fifty is great, Bug. It really is.

I always feel better at the regular time rather than the change of time zones for a six month period.

Reya, my most vivid memory of DC is not the memorials, or the seat of government, but of golfers playing at nearly nine in the evening.

I'm looking forward to the holidays, fall is my favorite season.

I'm with you on getting up in the dark. It is unnatural, even though it is probably very natural.

From Halloween on, I used to hate this season. Kids would come to school full of candy; papers all over the yard; gum and half eaten sweets appearing in more places than i can count. Then, the excitement of Christmas through the air changed the chemistry all around. It's hard for teachers and administrators around the holidays.
I'm glad you are looking forward to them.

I am looking forward to the holidays too. I am seeking a counselor to help me move on, making plans to push myself and travel to be with friends who care for me dearly and am hopeful for what the new year might bring...

Woof! Thanks Reya! Mom and I love following your blog! Love Jake too! I've gotta get Mom to type for me every day!!!! arrrooooo!!! Did you know Mom went to Wolf Park, and heard real wolves howl? I do pretty good at howling with them, when she plays the video from her camera. I love the seasons changing. I'm a Norse dog, you know! talk soon! wuuf!

Of course, the best, most excellent city to be in for Halloween is San Fran-disco!!! I lived right next to the Castro, so it felt like a national holiday to me. :)

The little (and I do mean little) town we live in now does a great job with Halloween--plenty of decorations, and lots of grownups who hand out candy or accompany kids get dressed up. Not what I would have expected in the normally repressed midwest! :)

Enjoy the holidays! This is my signal that I'm already behind on my Xmas knitting... :P

I'm glad that you can view the approaching holidays with equanimity. I'm afraid I get downright grumpy about having the Christmas etc. holidays in my face long before their time. I don't want to hear about Christmas until at least the first Sunday of Advent, and then only as something in the distance. I may have lost my religion, but I've kept my firm sense of season. I shall try to emulate you this year and go with the flow.

Love that last shot, particularly the buildings in the background.

I am a Scrooge and I admit it.

I cannot wait for the Christmas season to get over. At least the part that starts before Thanksgiving. I really enjoy Thanksgiving and the beginning of the changing seasons here in CA. Although we do not really have much change, other than we might have to turn on the heater by Thanksgiving, it is nice to see it happening in other parts of the country. So I am loving your pictures.

Bah humbug to Christmas before it is the season!!!!

Must be all this leftover Halloween candy I ate today that is putting me in such a mood. I need more chocolate......

God bless.
