A Happy Fatigue

There are so many different varieties of fatigue, have you noticed? There's the great, satisfying tired that follows lots of exercise or hard work well done. That kind of fatigue always leads to a blissful night of sleep.

Unfortunately, there any many brands of tired that aren't nearly so nice. There's the bone weariness that comes from an extended bout of anxiety, there's stress-fatigue that keeps me from sleeping and therefore worsens over time. There's a soul level tired that attends worry over people I love when they are struggling. No amount of sleep will cure that one. When my immune system is battling a virus, I'm tired, too, but that resolves itself with time, sleep, and chicken soup.

Today I'm dog tired because I worked hard all weekend including all the cooking for Saturday night. It's a really good kind of fatigue I'm experiencing today; the party was a total success, my clients benefited from their sessions and I feel I did well by them.

Am I whipped? Yes. Knackered? Oh yeah. But satisfied. Really looking forward to my Tuesday-Wednesday weekend, uh-huh!

It's great to have that sort of happy fatigue--it brings a lot of satisfaction I think, & it does seem to come less as one gets older, & some of the less pleasant forms of tiredness become a bit more common

Ah, the best type of fatigue! I felt that a week ago after spending a day in the city, the senses engaged all day as we walked miles exploring. Bliss.

A Happy Fatigue.....often accompanied by happy aches and pains. My favorite all time exhaustion comes from gardening. Today I have "lawn mower legs" and I am smiling at the big job well done! Funny that hill doesn't look so big until you have to mow it.

Lawn mower legs? I remember that one. Any day now I'll be suffering from "bike butt" after my first long ride of the season.

I know exactly what you are talking about here. I know all kinds of exhaustion/fatigue and am planning on a restful spring break to come back from it.

Glad that party was a success.

Oh yeah... I recognize that "job well done" feeling of tired. It is a good fatigue!
I love the photos. The favorite tree in my yard as a kid was the dogwood tree which I climbed innumerable times. I would sit & survey my domain or hang by my legs from the branch for an upside down view of the yard... good memories

Love the dogwood tree--mine is just starting to bud... Your springtime photos give me hope as I face a weather forecast that includes: rain, falling temperatures, sleet, and snow. Good thing we didn't un-shelter the hydrangeas yesterday!

Thanks for writing about fatigue today. I am having a non-happy fatigue day, so I've got the iPod going...

Mmmm - sounds like a very nice tired Reya. Enjoy your Tues-Wed weekend.

By the way your spirit guide insomnia recipe has worked very well in this house - Ta.

I'd trade you "hard work happy" fatigue for "I don't feel so good" fatigue. Someone took a lot of time putting in that tulip-grape hyacinth row.

Why I don't plant tulips anymore:

1) most of the better ones are Darwin Hybrid and bloom later which means

2) you have to leave the dead foliage alone for next year's growth, right when you want to plant other stuff

3) one whip of bad weather and they get wiped out (daffodils seem sturdier)

4) my neigborhood children love picking the blossoms off so I have stalks

I only have one bed of red going anymore called General Eisenhower and they are old. Yet I do love tulips. I just buy them now.

If I were Martha Stewart I would buy them, because she would have staff to replace them, and a security team armed with air guns to get the children.

Oh, I've got happy fatigue today, too, Reya! The best kind, huh? And I SO love dogwoods!! We had one in the front of WM that died a few years ago and I really miss it. I must plant another to replace it!

Happy resting Reya

Happy hardworking fatigue is my favourite one... physical work seems to restore a balance to the body too.

I have the kind of tired that needs some exercise. But everywhere I go it is cold, snowy or rainy.

I like your kind of tired. A job well done is a good kind of tired. Rest up.

Rest well and sleep the peaceful slumber of the tired but fullfiled. Bike butt, huh? Ouch. Oh yeah, I feel your pain. Loved the tulip pic and the Dogwood blossoms looke so nice with the green grass of Jake's banner. Nite nite.

I've often wondered about the term "dog-tired". which I take to mean an extreme kind of weariness.

My dog sleeps a great deal of the day away, but I would never call her tired. She can leap out of sleep into a frenzy of joyful activity on a moments notice.

Maybe I need to spend a little more time being dog tired in my life.
