Bustin' Out

Everything in the green world here in DC is popping, snapping, opening, rising, jumping out of the ground, from the little casings that hold the tree blooms, from the tips of the branches. It is like a slo-mo explosion of color outside. This is the great crescendo of spring in the American midatlantic.

Oh my.

I find spring here, by turns, overwhelming, irritating, and unbelievably beautiful. Every year, including this year of course, spring blows me away. There are days when I dance in shamanic alignment with the colors and shapes, when I become more vivid, put on a deep shade of pink lipstick and extra mascara. Other days I just want to run away from it all, go north or head out west past the Rockies, to places less verdant and therefore more peaceful.

My respiratory system reacts as if it has been attacked which is the very reason I went forth this morning to buy bucketsfull of allergy meds. This year I'm trying Zyrtec, a more virile 24 hour concoction than the Claritin I usually take.

I'm diving into the big antihistamines this year because I have a feeling that after our cold, snowy winter, this spring is going to be extra powerful. Judging by the way everything seems to be blooming all at once, I'm thinking my prediction is spot on.

Gird your loins, people. Spring has sprung!

That's more like it- though the weather was interesting and the photos were amazing- I can relax without adding additional clothing to view what's up in Reya's world. Everything here is at least one month early- the cherry tree which in the past has bloomed on my son's birthday in April , like clockwork- is now fully bloomed! So much for telling time by the trees...Mother nature is a tricky girl.

Wowsers to that first ecstatic photo.
So sorry about the horrid allergies

Linda Sue, you are so funny! It was a long, cold winter. Now the blooms seem to be saying, "LET ME OUTTA HERE!!"

Oh, I remember those days, contacts out, big glasses back on, pills in, sleepless nights, coughing fits. Ouch!

I call it better living through pharmaceuticals.

Things are blooming. My eyes are burning and watery. My ears are ringing. I couldn't get through and fall without ear candling. It is my saving grace.

Reya Mellicker said...

I love ear candling, too. My brain feels so clear afterwards.

i have allergies 12 months out of the year, so a little pollen doesn't blow me away...hope the trees flower better this year than last...with the ice storms and all, the trees had it rough and didn't show well at all.

Yay for Spring!

Yay for antihistamines!

Love the daffodil. I always enjoy your posts.

How beautiful! How wonderful to see! Out here we get the pollen (from the pinons and junipers, and later the ponderosas) long before the true flowers think of blooming and throwing out their own. Somehow it doesn't seem fair...but then you know what it looks like here right now.

reya--zyrtec works and I am thrilled to see the buds blooming--I am trying to get to see the cherry blossoms at the end of the month but given your pictures they may be happening before I get there--I agree with your forecast been taking zyrtec up here in nj and no buds are sprouting--so yes, gird your loins and buy stock in puffs because we are going to be sneezing and happy!

Hi Reya

I do love to see buds bursting out all over...

Happy spring days

Oh, I'm jealous. We're so tired of winter!

I always forget about allergies . . . which is, perhaps, the reason why I have a pure and total love for spring.

I have a friend who is heading to the D.C. area for the weekend and she has no idea what clothes to bring. Doesn't it seem like just the other day that you were buried in snow?
