Mama said there'd be moons like this.
This full moon (just fully full yesterday) was supposed to be a great full moon, especially for we Aquarians. But it was a terrible full moon for me. During the last few days, I have been, by turns, depressed or cranky, unable to contact my usual good humor. Either I couldn't sleep or I had terrible nightmares from which there was no escape. Even if I was able to wake from the dreams, when I fell back asleep I found myself right where I'd left off. Oh yeah I have been in a foul mood!
The power of the full moon is something people everywhere, throughout history, have remarked upon. Just ask anyone who works in a hospital emergency room if you doubt its impact. This moon, in particular, has made its mark. Janelle of Ngorobob Hill House, Willow of Willow's Manor, and Cynthia at Oasis wrote about it. I bet there are more posts out there about the moon. I just haven't found them yet.
We are definitely affected by natural phenomena and by extremely subtle shifts in the energy swirls around us. That much I know for sure. What it all means, though, is harder to figure out. Interpretation of subtle phenomena is where we humans get confused, though we have to try to understand what we're feeling, don't we?
If I'd thought more in terms of "potent" than "good" about this moon, maybe I could have hunkered down in resistance to my silvery sister, instead of hoping - and waiting - for the "good" stuff. Well, maybe. Maybe I was doomed to thrash through the full moon this time around. Who knows?
My great intuition teacher used to remind us, on a regular basis, to let go of interpretation. Rather, when sensing the subtle energies, we were asked to simply describe what we were sensing. Value judgments in particular obfuscate (thanks for the word, Miss Searcy) rather than reveal the meaning behind the complexity of the world we live in.
My fault, this time around, was to believe all my favorite astrologers when they promised me a "great" full moon. I should know better. My disappointment is not their fault, or the fault of dear Luna. Lesson learned! (Again!)
These are the three faces on my ultra cool new shamanic tool, the purbha, sent to me by the amazing Butternut Squash. Wicked cool, isn't it?

Wow, you covered a lot of emotional material here. Is it true that you can sense energies without interpretation? I wonder what an intuition teacher is...sounds great though. I think willow's post said that the effect was false. I think we are influenced...I also had a bit of a full moon adjustment period but I wrote about another aspect of moons this week. We all have moon on the brain!
I have to explore butternut's post...what a dramatic piece you have next to the chair. Send me some writing vibrations so I will get to work completing my dissertation instead of constantly getting sick. Love to you Reya and may you feel completely situated and in sinc with the moon cycles!<3
Oh my!
Do hope you feel better?
Yes, the full moon has power indeed.
When I was at boarding school (many many moons ago)
a very timid mouse-like girl called Rosemany Ethel Newey used to go quite crackers when the light from the full moon shone on her bed.
She would talk and rave and carry on......and on.
We were meant to be silent after lights out so this was very odd indeed.
There were no curtains on the windows........
word verification
was cyclables or something moon like
this time it's
dedsesed
which is too much like deceased.......
and now
UNGST
angst?what is word verifcation up to?
Willows post said that "studies" showed it was false. But read the comments - not every commenter said the moon had its impact, but many (most?) did.
Yes it's possible to describe intuitions without applying interpretation. Using the language of the senses works well. Instead of saying, "This feels like "bad" energy," you might say, "It feels cold next to your heart," or "I'm sensing a prickly buzzing sensation here," or "my breathing has suddenly changed."
Sending dissertation writing energy your way, Cynthia!
Interesting--I've felt kinda flooded by waves of melancholy & rather painful thoughts about the past over the last few days--hadn't thought about the full moon, but I do acknowledge it's a powerful force. Thanks for the reminder.
John - you and I are on the same wavelength!
Janelle, also, is blaming it on the moon. She says it so much more lyrically than I did.
All the moon did for me was make me a little bitchier than normal (yes that's possible). But I absolutely adore a full moon and have been known to sit outside for hours just gazing at it.
Oh, the swing of emotions! I hope you're feeling more "up" today.
Some full moons I love. This one? Not so much.
Usually I keep track of the full moon - this month I have been so distracted - I lost track. Yesterday was my mom's birthday and I have never felt such a melancholy. She died in '05 and I have been fine - yesterday was horrible. I was a useless, wandering, weeping bag of emotions. The moon has always affected me but this was off the charts.
Last night I slept well, but the night before I had terrible dreams from which I would awake & then go right back into them when I went back to sleep. Very disturbing night.
totally absolutely right on about the sensing/describing vs the interpreting in terms of expectations as to what is 'great' and what isn't.
That is a fabulous purbha. When did you receive it/start handling it?
I'll drop by the link at my next tea break.
Love the multiple exposure Jake doing his own purbha out in Washington :-)
Best to you both, Reya.
Your intuition teacher was a very wise man. I remember a short story I read many, many years ago when i still read sci-fi, by a Cuban writer. It was about a child's inner world and how he related to the geommetrical shapes we have in our world. Just think of a child before he/she goes to school and is taught what a triangle is, what a square is. How do they name these shapes before they learn them? And how do they dream when they cannot name these figures? The same with nature and its effects on us. With just a small part of our brain fully in use, there's so much out there that we don't know about. Your post was so deep, that I'm going to have to come back and read it again at night. Many thanks and I wish you better.
Greetings from London.
When I was very pregnant, I used to wait impatiently for full moons. Alas, not one baby born on a full moon. They are a favorite of mine, though. Especially the harvest moon that happens right around Halloween. The absolute best time of year in my opinion!
Hope you're back on your game soon. Very soon. *hugs*
That is way cool!
My husband and I see a Buddhist therapist who is the best therapist we've ever had. His philosophy is similar and he continually works with us on eliminating value judgments and, instead, expressing our "need" and our "feeling". If we hit on something that is key, we have to visualize and describe what we see. Not an easy thing to do but it certainly helps when you have to recapture the emotion.
I seem to have sleeping problems when it's a full moon. I don't know if I expect it because I hear it disrupts your cycle or if it really just disrupts your cycle.
Congratulations on the new tool - hope it helps drive away the bad vibes.
Hi Girl,
Now I know why I couldn't sleep last night!
Many years ago I worked in a psychiatric setting. Our patients were affected by the full moon. But then I wonder to what extent the staff was also affected by the full moon. ;}
Artsparker - purbhas are meant to drive away "bad" spirits! Good call. Like Cuban in London noted, shapes have their impact on the way we think, too.
BTW, Cuban, my teacher was a she. She is brilliant, an Aikidist, bodyworker, and powerful person.
There are some full moons I really love, others not so much. I was born at the new moon, so the energy of the full moon tends to be a bit much for me.
There are some eclipses coming up that might also be tugging on you. And for an incomparable photo of the incomparable moon over Seattle, check out http://seattle-daily-photo.blogspot.com/. It's a spectacular shot.
I worked with medical, food and cash assistance for people for 18 years, and you could tell when it was full moon, if you had not looked it up. Things happen. I also love the moon signs, after I found out about it, I used it for breaking my kids from the bottle, and pottie training.
I had a not fun at all dream this morning. Didn't think about the fool moon. That 'purbha' you have there?? They all look familiar. Is that masc./fem. influenced or is it an it? Do you have to (um) season/cleanse/energize them, like crystals? Do you belong to 'purbha' or it/he/she to you? Reya, I loved the way you presented 'purbha' to us. Magic. I watched for a long time and I will go back. I see you dancing. I almost see me dancing. WHATever that is, it makes me smile and so do you and your prickly moon.
Man, I had a terrible night's sleep, too! I personally think we ARE effected by the moon's cycles. I threw it out for my readers to decide, and most of them agreed that it does!
I just noticed the moon this morning as I drove to the airport with my mom, ready to board the plane to return to NYC. It was a big, brilliant full moon, though I personally didn't detect negative energies...anyway, I hope you feel back on your toes again soon. :)
I'm oblivious to the moon. The may explain my general loopiness.
hey, my full moon blog didn't promise a happy full moon...in fact with saturn's influence I predicted pretty much what you described....but I gave a few Virgo remedies for it...
not so helpful now, but here's the link: http://www.wisestars.net/blog
Is that what is going on? The moon. I've been okay but, gee whiz. All around me is craziness, unsettledness, crankiness, whinyness and walking zombies. Guess I got mine at retrograde and get to skate here.
Loved the purbha. Have you worked with it yet?
I love the purbha. I do believe there is definitely a moon effect on all sorts of aspects of our lives on this planet.. and i've always been quite in tune with the moon, myself. Hope the bad moon energies have passed you by, by now and you are serene once more! x
this moon was H.U.G.E. for me. Beating me up even. Sadness, despair, intensity. When I realized what it was, I could keep to myself, since I don't have an island to go to..
Reya, I read where you know in which phase the moon was when you were born, so I decided to search for mine. It seems the luminosity was at 0.28% on the day of my birth; perhaps that is the better period for my having a good night's sleep.
Reya,
I used to be so attuned to the full moon, but these last few years, I am less attuned. It was a bad full moon for me as well (also an aquarian). Bad dreams, bad moods, touchy, prickly. I wonder why that is.
