Blah

From wikipedia:

Overcast or overcast weather is the meteorological condition of clouds obscuring 95% or more of the sky. Overcast happens when the entire sky becomes covered with clouds; hence the word to describe it. Periods of overcast weather can range from a few hours to several days. Overcast weather can also affect people suffering from seasonal affective disorder.

"Overcast happens." Kind of like, "sh** happens" ?? Well said - except I don't believe it's the most elegant way to articulate either phenomena.

Last spring was perfect, so it makes sense that we're having a gloomy season this time around. But I don't have to like it!

Ever the contrarian, though never deliberately so...

I happen to dig this weather so incredibly, I could pull a Sound-of-Music style twirly thing in the middle of 14th Street while laughing like an unmedicated loony. Cool wind & full cloud-cover. Magical.

Could be that my eyeballs are more light-sensitive than most, but I find all-sunny days brutally oppressive. Or maybe Eeyore truly IS my spiritual hero. But I'd love a planet of THIS forever.

how's that for some twisted sorta-anti-Polly-Anna nonsensitude?

I know, I know! You belong in the Pacific Northwest, or in Ireland maybe. One of my great teachers, who loved gray weather, used to say she was "genetically inclined to sit beneath a dripping sky." Y'all must be related!

This punky weather's had a grip right up the East Coast. It sure isn't helping our blahs! Here's a coffee toast to a brighter summer :)

Hope Jake wasn't in the line of fire of whatever he was meant to 'dodge' :-)

Not a cloud in sight here, and not going to be for a while. It's going to be about 96 today with a heat index (feels like) 100 plus. That's hot. Humidity is only in the high 80's so it could be worse. We are having a drought; this is the third week with no rain. We are accustomed to having rain every afternoon in the winter and three or four times a week in the summer. Good thing I like rain. So...I'm off to water the vegetable and herb gardens, they look very thirsty.

I don't like it either. The weather feels blah and my mood is blah. *sigh*

At least my garden is happy.

(Love the pic with Jake in the Dodge reflection. :))

That looks like what we in the Pacific Northwest refer to as a "marine layer," optimistically believing that sometime later in the day, they'll clear out and we'll see blue sky. As for us, we've had 28 consecutive days with no measurable rainfall, but last night the clouds moved in so we probably won't tie the record of 29 days.

We're having the same season here. We can remember the last time we couldn't have dinner on the deck in mid-June. Blah!

Hi Reya,

This seems like the perfectly good weather for me to shamelessly promote this project. I will shamelessly ask that everyone here visits my blog to see this shameless project. I think they will all be happy that they did.

So just shamelessly click on my name and it will magically take you there. You can do it, I know you can. And it will brighten up your day. A ray of hope that can be shared.

God bless.

The Times had an article about it this morning -- no one is happy with this weather! It IS nice to not need the air conditioner, though. :)

I see Jake is now endorsing a failing American behemoth, good product placement there! Here there is something in the air causing sneezing and teary eyes...some lovely spring blossum or weed is like cryptonite...confining me to cower in my airconditioned fortress of solitude.

Hi Reya!
Trying to catch up on blog readings... I have much to catch up on!
Anyway, I kindof like gloomy days. They make me appreciate the petty days more. also, sometimes they just feel right.

Overcast doesn't really bother me. It must be my Scotch Irish DNA speaking. I love a nice grey day. We're having intermittent blah and sun today in central Ohio.

Wow, I'm sure with you.... gray skies in all senses. It helps to hear someone else talk about it-- thanks.

Tom? LOL!! Duck and cover, friend.

The weather has its impact, though according to our unique psyches/biologies. We are certainly a diverse species.

We had blah yesterday. I think they're forecasting blah tomorrow.

This is supposed to stick around for the next week or so...
I keep reminding myself not to complain because we have desperately needed rain. This time last year my grass was crunchy. Now everything is beautifully green and welcoming.
There's always a silver lining. The gloom makes my house look so much cleaner; the sunshine just highlights dust and dog hair.

Whitney, what a GREAT way to look at it. When the sun shines, I always notice the dust bunnies, too. Thanks for the positive perspective!

As a fellow Washingtonian, I'm glad that the relentless baking heat of summer is at bay for at least one more day. I'm not looking forward to that feeling of opening the front door and walking out into a freakin' sauna. Or being knocked flat by a heatwave when opening your car door, for that matter.

Overcast here, too . . . and WINDY!
(How do you feel about wind?)

I'm always "lighter" in mind/body/spirit when the sun is shining.

It's the weather. Today I feel like crawling under a rock, or blanket. I have nothing to write about and everyone I talk to seems crabby. It's definitely the weather.

Reya Mellicker said...

The weather definitely predicts us, not the other way around. If you saw Intangible Arts out and about, though, Andrea, you'd see a happy guy, smiling and whistling a Very Strange tune, as he does.

Bee - there are some winds I like. Other winds really get on my last nerve. Every wind seems so different from every other one, though all winds make me so tired if I have to be out in them for a long period of time.

Primavera - I could NOT stop reading your blog. I tried, but finally just gave up and kept reading and reading. Wow. Somehow I'm skeptical that such places exist in DC, but who knows? I'm such a nerdy dork, I wouldn't know a swinging party if it was right in front of my face. Very fun blog!

Warning to the curious: Primavera write a Very Adult Blog. Approach with caution.

I agree --great weather for mushrooms but really starting get a little annoying. The forecast tomorrows calls for two inches of rain--we have had five so far...onward--the sun will come out..some time soon--please? c

Loved the picture! As for overcast, it is definitely shitty. Either rain or get out of the way, I say.
