Swallowed

I don't want to complain - because Blogger is free - but ... well ... what happened to my overphotoshopped avatar? It suddenly disappeared sometime last week. Even more mysterious is that all my efforts to replace it have not worked. Navigating through layer after layer of unhelpful "help" pages in Blogspot didn't provide me with any information I didn't already know. When I logged into the "help group" I saw that lots of people have lost their avatars since November 2007.

Is there a dragon or gnome or troll hiding somewhere inside Blogger, some strange virtual monster that feeds on avatars? Who knows? (This is the way I think.)

Until something shifts, I believe I'll publish pics of myself every now and then, so I can maintain a visual presence on The Gold Puppy. Hope the Blogger troll doesn't like reflected images of bloggers, too. Could half a pic disappear? Will there be bite marks left behind? Yikes!

Wow, I would hate to lose my avatar! It took me forever to... and someone else helped... and it took them forever too! but finally it went up!

Dennis spent about 40 seconds putting his up, no problem. That's how life is sometimes.

Dennis had no trouble creating his avatar.

hmmmm...if many people have lost their avatars, maybe they all took off to have a party somewhere? Taking a vacation or something?

It's the avatar gnomes. Pint-sized kleptomaniacs without shame or remorse. They best leave my flag alone, or I'll start drop-kicking the little buggers all the way back to Gnomeville or Cleveland or wherever the hell they're from!

Blogger has been playing tricks on me as well.

Not gnomes, horrible over eager nerd programmers who release to soon. (release their code that is although the other problem probably also occurs)

Oh, I'm so glad Dennis has joined us in virtual reality!

Blogger is weird sometimes. Things just HAPPEN. I hadn't heard of this avater problem, though...hmmm....

Well, Reya I can understand your frustration with your disappearing avatar, but I like looking at your every now and then reflected image even more.

I'm thinking of an avatar overhaul. Maybe blogger can push me to it by eating mine. A new year, a new me. Why not?

When I get frustrated with Blogger, I suddenly realize that those Blogger geeks are totally responsible for maintaining everything I've ever written and photographed. If for some reason they get pissed off at me, they could eat my whole Blog, not just my non-existent avatar. Yikes! I hope they don't object to being called geeks. Are the Blogger police listening???

I like the idea of your avatar being off somewhere partying with other missing avatars...

I LOVE the concept of my avatar par-taying with other lost avatars.

Honestly I haven't been frustrated as much as amused. Since I regard the universe as one, ongoing, interactive tarot reading, I'm certain that the mummified avatar I had posted no longer suited me. Voila! A brand new me.

Cuff I swore I saw you on the Metro the other day. It was a guy who looked like your avatar, at least. Post a new one, if for no other reason that that your readers would love to get a closer glimpse.

Hammer you ALWAYS make me laugh. And whomever posted the gnome comment, you are brilliant!

It figures that Dennis had no trouble posting his avatar. I'll try again before Mercury goes retrograde.

I just had to tell someone--today I got this as a word verification -- vajayj--- it made me laugh.

Dennis thrives when Mercury is in retrograde.

before the gnomes took all the avatars they came by the mouse and snatched up the recipe card image for sister mary's buttermilk pie! so I expect everyone is having a fine time partying and eating pie!

I have had funny things happen with photos on blogger. and just can't figure some things out.

I am way overdue to fix my blogroll...all of that nitpicky little stuff. For a few days last week, Blogger.com was cutting my avatar in half when I left comments on other's blogs...who knows why. I used to be better shifting my avatar's around for holidays and such. So lazy...or so busy. Some, like Hammer, find such a perfect iconic image, they don't have to think about changing.
