Yom Kippured

Yesterday turned out to be one of my favorite Yom Kippurs of all time. Part of that I owe to the wonderful clients who came to see me, each in a very different place; one about to give birth, another wondering what happened to her youth and vitality, one who is a good friend, and finally a Reiki student, luminous and reverent.

Variety was part of the magic of yesterday in the weather, too. Sunny, breezy and warm, then overcast, dark and threatening, then clear with puffy clouds, then overcast again, etc.

Before work I walked to Eastern Market to check out the vibe of the day. On the way, a car pulled out in front of me while I was crossing the street. Nothing unusual there. The miracle was when he stopped, rolled down his window and said, "Sorry I almost ran over you - I'm still kind of sleepy."

Whoa.

DC drivers never ever, not EVER, apologize. I knew right then that God was with me. A few minutes later I overheard a little girl asking her mother, "Does God have eyelashes?" Nice, eh? Some guy started a conversation just as I left Eastern Market, then walked with me for several blocks, just chatting. This, too, rarely happens between strangers in DC, even on Capitol Hill. The Big Divine Wisdom and Love was definitely close all day.

Because I didn't need to review the year just past, God and I engaged in several lively conversations about what's ahead for me. We talked about what I want for my old age, for instance. Here's the list that includes what I don't already have (such as my great good health - thank you God!!)

What I Want for Old Age, thanks for asking:

1. A husband
2. Eat-in kitchen
3. Two dogs
4. A porch with rockers
5. Stars

Right before sunset, God appeared in his crepuscular ray outfit. It was a very stylish hail and farewell, a perfect end to an exquisite holiday. Happy New Year, y'all. L'chaim!

Miracles! And I will give you a star on my blog walk of fame. As for the husband, you're on your own. Where are they?

Ellen maybe I should have included a micro-fiber sofa.

add the micro-fiber sofa, why not? There's a one day grace period on amending your Yom Kippur wish list, isn't there?

gorgeous light in the photos, Reya.

I hear you on stars. There's this one beach I know...where you see shooting stars all of the time, and if you stare into the vastness long enough, you get dizzy...but in a good way. Stars are definitely on my list. I even want to buy a telescope, anticipating stars in my future.

Oh, how lovely it is to be back here! L'chaim to you, Reya, and I wish you very many more Happy New Years. I hope, too, that each item your Old Age List can be ticked off to your complete satisfaction.

I shall zoom off now to read with relish all your posts I've missed during my enforced on/off relationship with the Blogworld. (House hunting safaris are now at an end - all things being well!)

sounds like a super nice days with memorable moments. i don't remember DC drivers being rude but, then again, it's been 20 years since I left the area. Boston drivers suck! they are notoriously lousey drivers and they blame YOU!

I think you're pretty much guaranteed to have stars, Reya! As for the rest, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. :)

Hmm - I feel this strong urge to matchmake. Fortunately for you all of my eligible bachelors are 30 or gay...

Glad you had a blessed day.
Obviously you got me thinking about the old age thing
so after good health for my family, and other people's families......for me selfishly

2 acres
chickens
a donkey
ducks
dogs
someone to help me with the garden when I'm too crippled
a stream to play in

gosh, I'm getting greedy.

When I think of some good husband material I'll let you know.

I just knew you would have a lovely day! It is interesting how the clients we have align with specific energetic power days. The mirrors the universe shine back at us.

Your list reflects your moving into a space of making a good hearth and home. My heart smiled that you listed rocker(s)--plural!

Crepuscular Ray outfit...oh, yeah! That's how I always see Her too!

I'm so glad you have been happily Yom-Kippured! The title drew me over here quickly, ,lol. Old age list? You're a spring chicken! Husband BEFORE eat-in kitchen though? Hmmmm....
:-) Happy New Year!

how could anything so beautiful be called 'crepuscular'?

also, be careful what you wish for...i see in your future any number of unmarried bloggers flocking to your doorstep at this moment, some with a couple puppies in tow!

Reya: Did you forget to mention that your new husband won't speak English very well? Or that your porch view would be of the Aegean? Dream BIG! You are definitely up for it! Love the post...l'chaim to you, as well.

Hi Reya

I want to thank you for crepuscular rays...I didn't know that term , having always referred to them as God's fingers...
We see many such beautiful visions in Kauai over the mountains...

There is a lovely old Aussie song that says, with some deletions:

Oh give me a home
among the gums trees...

a sheep or two
and a kangaroo....

a verandah on the back
and an old rock-ing chair...

Happy days

Wonderful post, Reya. To see your stars you'll be moving to the country to enjoy the other requests.

hello reya - i wish you every blessing! your list is oh so close to my own - although i don't think i could use a husband! i'd also trade the walk-in kitchen for a sleep-in kitchen. i'd love a room big enough to cook in and then a murphy bed to pull out from the wall. call me weird - go ahead!!! sweet dreams. steven

Sounds like a wonderful list for bliss. You told me a long time ago that what I wrote for my profile was brave, that still makes me smile because I've never thought myself a very courageous person. You however are, and putting up this lovely honest list says so to me.
I'm hoping you'll get all you wish for.

Oh, the evocative power of words. "Crepuscular Ray" sounds to me like a (pleasantly) raunchy blues singer/guitarist. He wears chambray shirts and jeans. His hair is greying, and it curls just over his collar. He has a beard and moustache, both neatly trimmed, that belie his bad boy image.

Oh, and he's single. God only knows why. ;>)

Enough of this fantasizing. Happy New Year, Reya!

What fabulous comments! "Crespuscular rays" sounds to me like a disorder of the muscle fascia, but of course I would think that. Fun to say, though.

Yes I believe I will have to move away from an urban area in order to have stars visible from the porch with the rockers. That's one reason I'm hoping for a husband. If I was out there cooking in my eat in kitchen with my dogs at my feet, alone with the stars? I would just get even weirder than I already am. I need human companionship in old age, someone to talk to, laugh with.

Tom: unmarried bloggers? Bring it!

Love and gratitude to all for these beautiful new year wishes. I made Willow feel soft and fuzzy. How cool.

I explained your day of no words to my second graders and they tried it - for ten minutes lol.

This was a joyous post. Conversations with Wisdom and Love are always a good thing.

You deserve your list..:)

what a fabulous day - if only every day could be like this full of warm humanity. I agree with some of the other comments "crepuscular" although a fabulous word does not ring with beauty for some reason - perhaps too much 'pus' in the middle?? a fabulous time of day though ad i picture the rays so clearly;
i love your list too and wish for you all this and more x
