Going Against the Flow

I suppose it's best that my work schedule is in exact opposition to the schedules of most folks because in my heart of hearts I am such a contrarian. Sometimes, though, like over holiday weekends, it feels like I have to gather twice as much energy to go do my work.

Labor Day weekend, which includes the first Monday in September here in the U.S., is sacrosanct. Everyone in the business world and government has the day off. For me it's a great time to hunker down and work my ass off - make hay while the sun shines. People are far more likely to take the time for a massage when they have a long weekend, so I book my days solid, a very good thing for my bank account.

Funny, then, that I find myself this morning wanting to be lazy, to sit around the barbecue with my neighbors and friends, hang out. For heaven's sake, I give myself So Much Time to hang out; I should be happy to put my nose to the grindstone. Maybe because the prevailing energy on a holiday weekend is that of relaxation, as a shaman I must push upstream against it in order to rally the will to go to work. Or perhaps I'm just lazy, who knows?

I guess I can figure it out later. Right now? Must gather my willpower and get to work. To everyone else enjoying a long weekend, hope you have a great one!

hi reya, swimming upstream against the current of energy flowing through you on a weekend, a holiday weekend - the silence of batteries recharging all around you while you make swirling rustling sounds dancing your bodywork dance. the focus on gathering energy while you are giving. that's real work. i find in those times that i feel myself more strongly. i want to fall back and let the flow carry me downstream and sometimes i simply do just that. the bikes - well they say "ride me". go see what you can see. then come back and do what you can do. have a peaceful day. steven

it's hard to work when everyone else is playing. Being in retail I experience this constantly...so i feel your pain...raking in all that green stuff makes the pain go away, however. ...good weekend!

It all goes to show that you are practical also. Love the heart shadows made by the bike seats. You are so perceptive.

Working while everyone else is playing is hard to do. I am feeling lazy today, even though we have two things on opposite ends of Reno to attend. My creative energy seems to be in low drive right now. Hard to muster. But I am going to plug along until it comes back!

Enjoy your time when everyone else goes back to work and you can sleep in. :-)

How did you first realise that you were drawn to shamanism?

It always seems to me that it's easier to get busy when everyone else is too. Who wants to work when it seems that the rest of the world is at play?

That photo of you(as a younger hottie) was fantastic. You are gorgeous. The post made me laugh. I do know just what you mean.

I hope the roommate situation gets sorted soon.
Our trash cans were raided at midnite by raccoons and they made a big mess. It happens on full moons often.

Soledad, as soon as I pick up your contact info, I'll delete your comment so that info isn't out there available to anyone.

Well, then, enjoy your working Labour Day weekend. A paradox if ever I saw one, but you enjoy it, so it's good.

Nice to see that the quality of writing has remained as good as if not gone better than before.

Greetings from London.

I had to work on Labor Day, too! My university holds classes, though it gives staff the day off. One year I canceled classes in protest, but I felt like a slacker for doing it, and felt sheepish about it... So I worked today. Oh well; I'll have a couple days in a row off around Thanksgiving--something to give thanks for!

Ciao,
Karen
