Critical Mess

I steered a wide arc around Kramerbooks today on my way home from a much needed massage. My book addiction is clearly out of hand. No matter how many boxes of books I carry to the chateau, there are still many many many more here in the house on Tennessee Avenue. Yikes.

Last night was my first night in my new apartment, Chateau 7. (I like naming my residences; it is a Britishism that I shamelessly adopted long ago. I am such an anglophile.)

Brothers Lightning and Thunder stopped by to welcome me to my new home. It was a sound and light show unlike anything we've seen in DC so far this season, truly spectacular.

So OK, I'm really tired of boxes and mayhem, and feel so out of it here in the blog world. I haven't read any blogs in two days. Will I ever catch up? I shouldn't even be posting, there's so much work to be done, but I had that perfect title, and I like the picture of the only part of my kitchen that's somewhat orderly.

It'll all be over soon. Shalom.

I like that last image Reya. We named our house as well - Pagoda. I suppose it's because my mother is British. My daughter shares your addiction to books but she's being lured to the Kindle and it's helping a bit with the clutter. I posted today about my problem with magazines - totally understand.

I opened my last box today. One that had been out on the deck that I thought had my pottery for my new plants. It didn't, but I realized it took since June 1 to finally open the last box!

Hang in there, & enjoy the process as much as you can! Is it the oppressive DC summer heat for all this?

critical mess is clever reya. i like to let this place reach that point and then to reframe it into something workable - newly workable. books? well it's a probable because they have so many associative connections eh? i have books that i keep because i remember where or when or why i read them. i have books i keep because they tell a story that i committed deeply to. i have books i keep because i know that at some time the insight that i'm supposed to take from them will emerge and envelop me. so there are little piles all over this place for that reason. i've not toured the bloggy world thoroughly for a couple of weeks. nope. guilt guilt guilt!!! happy stormy summer nights! steven

Chateau 7 is so classy! Love it!! Hey, I've got that same New Basics cookbook. I need to get it out and give it a second look.

good to see 12 of your volumes found a home--must be cookbooks. i guess you can trade down to the small rainstick again.

Perhaps you should open a lending library... I think it would be interesting to peruse your book collection. Reya unplugged!

More books! More!
I have that problem too. Next Friday I'm actually taking the day off to go shopping for a proper bookcase: an entire wall of book capacity.
Happy move-in!

The familiar red/white cover of The New Basics Cookbook really jumped out at me. I love that book!

Ah, moving. I've done it so many times and am gearing up to do it again in the next year or so. In the last couple of weeks we've been looking at houses in Oxford and there is one thing that all have in common: LOTS of bookshelves. I can't help but love that in a house. I'm SO GLAD that you are so excited about the energy that your new home gives off. I love this kind of fresh start.

Reading your last couple of weeks of posts have made me realize how long it's been! You're moving house and I'm just now hearing about it?! I am in Portugal at the moment, and after nearly a week it seems okay to plug back in to my Internet world. I keep thinking I will get back to "normal" one day soon, and I'm realizing that "normal" to me is being in tune with my on-line friends.

There's a young woman here who has an organizing business. She's very reasonable ($15 an hour) and she'll help you organize everything from the minute you start bringing boxes into the house. She's helping me organize my whole house, bit by bit, but I think she gets frustrated by the everywhere books. You need an Amber in your life until all the boxes are unpacked and things have a new home.

One good thing about mess: putting it in order feels satisfying. :)

Okay, maybe one more good thing: it's all potential right now. Things don't have a place yet, so you are listening to them & finding out what their place is (if that makes sense)...

Happy sorting and settling in!
