My Kind of Flag Waving

Feeling matriotic today in a big way. I'm hopeful for the future, thanks to Barack Obama. I'm peaceful, too, because for some reason the neighborhood children haven't set off a single firework yet. It's noon! Usually the mayhem begins days before the 4th. But this year? It's nice and quiet. What a good portent! Wow.

It's not too hot, either. Hot enough to feel summery, but pleasant, as July days go in Washington DC.

In a couple of hours some of my favorite neighbors will come by to feast and drink beer, swap stories and hang out on the porch for a few hours.

Life is good. Happy 4th to all.

Peace.

Prayer Flags on the Kora (Circular Path) around the mountain top of Ganden Monastery, Tibet. Lung-ta, the windhorse, carries these prayers to the Eternal Blue Sky for the benefit of all beings. Nice. Music by Phil Thornton.

I'm picturing myself sitting on the ground in Tibet playing a drum while the prayer flags flap in the sky. It seems so right. We never really get that experience here, although I must say the music on your vid sounds a lot like some of the music Leyla uses in our yoga class.

I've never been much of a flag-waver, although I believe I am fiercely patriotic. Why the hell am I defending my patriotism -- I'm not the one running for office!

Matriotic - I love it!!!

Okay there is something seriously wrong with me. I'm sitting here listening to the beautiful drones and the throat singing and watching the flags wave peacefully over Tibet, and the next thing I know I'm hearing bagpipes and Amazing Grace in my head and hallucinating in swirling patterns of plaid. I watched it again and the same thing happened. But it was still quite beautiful, so thank you for posting it!

Pod, you MUST COME VISIT THE U.S.

Oops. Was I being manipulative? OK, sorry. Can't help it where you're concerned, dear Pod.

What a fantastic video. The music resonated deep within me (was it the bass notes or something more spiritual?). I have to look this up on iTunes so I can listen to it when chillin' out. Thanks.
