Busyness

It's mid-October and the spirits are stirring. Oh yeah. The ghosts are keeping me awake at night, I hope not for long. I've been talking to them, explaining that when I lie down in my bed, that ordinarily means I'm sleeping, not the best time for them to tell me their stories. I believe that ghosts are kind of like stoners who can't quite get a bead on their own condition, and aren't terribly perceptive about the living either. For instance, I think they can't really tell if we're awake or asleep. When we're sleeping, at least we hold still and are quiet, which is why (according to the cosmology of Reya) they come to us at night.

Just as with a career stoner, I have to remind them of this again and again. Everything seems to go in one ghostly ear and out the other. I am mostly patient with ghosts, though I tend to get a little cranky when sleep deprived which is why I was snapping my fingers and clapping my hands at 3 a.m. last night, yelling, "DUDES!! Back off! I need my sleep."

They seemed startled, but they did leave me alone after that.

Unlike my usual "lifestyle" (really dislike that word), time will not be my luxury for the next couple of weeks. My social calendar is jammed, my work calendar is overflowing, and I've got a bunch of extra projects I feel compelled to finish before the Day of the Dead. I might not have time to think, which means the blog may either be boring or maybe I'll skip a day or two (gasp).

In November, things will calm down. Happy Monday! Shalom.

It seemed summer would never end and now it's almost the end of October. Sorry the ghosts are keeping you awake. I have no such excuse for being awake in the wee hours.

whoever comes here, smokes cigarettes. I have to tell him to leave on a regular basis.

I'm pretty sure I would be FREAKED OUT if I thought ghosts were interrupting my sleep. Fortunately I think it's just caffiene.

Debra, many of the ghosts I encounter smoke cigs, too. There can be no other explanation for the smell of tobacco when all the windows are closed (no one in this house smokes).

Great description! How apropos, euphemistically speaking. Glad to hear the DUDES! BACK OFF thing worked for you. Brava!

My daughter has a young girl who often wakes her and it used to scare her quite a bit. One night my daughter saw the girl just standing next to her bed and my daughter felt the girl was a bit scared so she asked if she would like to climb in and the girl nodded. My daughter suddenly was no longer afraid, she just pulled the covers down a bit and rolled over. She isn't scared of her anymore but she still leaves the light on when she goes to bed and she's 24.

Very interesting, because I haven't had a good night's sleep for a week. Things have been stirring.

Willow are you smelling the perfume?

life, and apparently ghosts, have a way of intervening in our plans...

jeesh! I should always read the comments before I chime in -

I occasionally smell cigarette smoke where no one has been smoking - in my car, for example, and in my tiny cottage. I always thought it was my dad and so felt entirely comfortable. He's not a "stoner" though, as far as I know. Perhaps my visitor is someone else!

Pauline, there are stoner ghosts, and then there are ancestors who have gone through some kind of healing process and returned to help us. I should write about that today.

Your cosmology, including your account of ghosts, would make for an engaging movie.

California Girl - the pic is from a front yard on East Capitol Street. They also have a tombstone dedicated to Larry King Live ... they even have suspenders on the tombstone. Very cool!
