Talisman
The fountain in Dupont Circle.
Some folks have asked me about the image in the new banner, what it is and what does the key unlock. M.S. Merwin says it best. Thanks again to (Not Plain) Jane who introduced me to this poem a long time ago.
TO THE HAND
What the eye sees is a dream of sight
what it wakes to
is a dream of sight
and in the dream
for every real lock
there is only one real key
and it’s in some other dream
now invisible
it’s the key to the one real door
it opens the water and the sky both at once
it’s already in the downward river
with my hand on it
my real hand
and I am saying to the hand
turn
open the river
Potomac River with the breeze skipping across its surface.

WONderful piece of poetry. And lovely images, as always, Reya. Perfect new header.
Thanks, Willow!!
I'm wandering through the lines, "for every real lock there is only one real key". So many layers. The fountain is beautiful, I would love to see it.
So that is what is meant by "talk to the hand"...Beautiful poem beautiful shots-
BTW- re: comment: we did do weeks of acupuncture to the tune of over a thousand dollars, also prednisone, also chiropractory...and lymph node massage stuff...tried everything but it just has to heal in it's own time if it ever will...I guess.Sucks- no body seems to know diddly about it...just that it might go away.
that is a lovely moving piece of poetry.
how are you faring in this heat?
I am so over the heat. When the hurricane passes, it's supposed to cool down. Wish we were getting some rain but supposedly we won't.
I like the poem, though I'm not sure what it means! :)
Steve, the poem is about true love.
