A Real Winter
We had more snow last night! And we're supposed to get snow over the weekend. Wow! This is more snow than I've seen the entire time I've lived in DC. I love it! Snow is pure and clean, photogenic, so cheerful compared to what we would usually be seeing: dreary rain falling on a greyish, muddy landscape. Snow makes everything look lacy and delicate and sculptural. I am a fan of snow.
Please remember that I don't have to drive or commute, that I have waterproof boots and good winter clothing. And I like to shovel. If my situation was different, I might not be so entranced.
As it is, this beautiful snowy winter is just one more thing I like about 2010. Oh yeah!

Hello, old friend! I've been following your weather events this last few weeks. How exciting. If you recall, my daughter lives in the DC area, and she's been calling with regular reports on the excitement.
I'm a huge snow fan, too. And I must admit to a wee bit of snow envy this year, and it's been sparse in my neck of the woods. Be safe and warm, Reya!
It is pretty...in pictures. And I like it for about 10 minutes if I'm actually in it, but after that it loses it's appeal.
How funny that we've had such a mild winter here in Detroit compared to nearly everyone else. We've only had a couple of snowfalls, and never more than two inches. And it's been WONDERFUL! Snow is only lovely if you don't have to drive in it. Otherwise it is pure evil.
Snow is the way the weather gods explain that we should stay home and drink martinis. At least that's how I interpreted last weekend's snowstorm.
Happy snow days, Reya!
Everyone should get at least a touch of snow - it's good for the outlook.
(LA denizens excepted - you can't have your sidewalk java at the Urth Cafe in a snowstorm).
It's been pretty mild for a Catskills winter, but always with a bit of white on the ground.
Quite lovely.
I was driving through southern Ohio last weekend just before dawn. The snow glistened like billions of diamonds between the bent and broken stubble in the field. So beautiful, it brought me to tears.
Isn't it great? And it just keeps on coming. I love that it makes everything lighter and brighter, even on gray cloudy days.
We are springing forward here- blossoms blossoming! FREAKY! Never have we had such weather! I must say I am liking it alot- I don't have to give the dog a bath after every walk and I am down to only two layers of clothing- sometimes sandels...no martinis for me! It is margarita weather!
Love the snow shots! Happy birthday Month!
We have snowdrops here; no snow.
But the weather is so wet and cold that one wishes for snow instead . . . so much more aesthetically pleasing!
What was the official groundhog word this year?
Never mind about the groundhog; I just saw it on yesterday's post. :)
"Our snow" in Northern Germany has not melted since before Christmas. It is piling up and up, and we don`t know where to shovel it now. The big lake in Hamburg is frozen, and my kids were on it with their sleigh. It is beautiful, but slowly we wait for the daffodils!
I've lost count of all the snows we've had this year, but every time you've had any, we've had a lot! We're mostly enjoying it, and taking your advice about staying home and relaxing--except there's no Vermouth on Droop Mountain, so we make do.
Brrrr, it looks cold there. The sun is shinning here and hopefully we will get the rain they are predicting over the next few days. The rain Gods have been blessing us with their much needed gift. Our mountains are covered in snow and look beautiful. It is the best of both worlds. I can see all the snow I want but I do not have to live in it. And I could visit it in less than an hour and then be back home in less than an hour. How cool is that?
And thank you for liking my poem so much. I am thankful that it made you feel peaceful deep in your heart. What more can one ask for from someone who reads them. I am hoping that maybe I will go back to writing more poems again. I haven't felt like writing them since my surgery last year. This must be a sign of my body on it's path of healing.
I do have to say that I was thinking of you when I wrote it, and all that snow.
God bless.
Love that last photo, lacy tree and a bit of blue sky, too. Yes, last weekends snow was nice because I didn't have to drive in it...today, I got a snow day and it's already melted on the roads...but at Christmastime, that was a drag for me, having to fly out to Oregon, no taxi's running to get me to the airport and stuck in SF for 7 hours...
It's been fairly uneventful here in Michigan this winter. We've only had maybe 3 snows and small ones. I'm hoping for a heavier blizzard. It's an event and an exciting challenge so bring it on. I love to shovel too. I'd rather have snow than all those grey unmovable days with no sun!
look at those marshmallow fingers strecthing to tickle the windows!!!! steven
The pictures are beautiful. I love the snow but am ready for a break. Mostly because I have something planned this weekend and another snowstorm would mess that up!
I do love how snow transforms the landscape into something so crisp and clean, particularly when my yard is looking so pitiful.
I'm so glad you are enjoying the snow! It is rare that I get to enjoy snow and I can only begin to imagine the fun you are having!
isn't the secret of a great life appreciating what comes your way--I love it
love you
Boo Hoo! We haven't had any white, lacy stuff yet. Just fat rain, you know the slushy, ice stuff.
And the snow gods told me the LOVE martinis!
I like it too. But I'm starting to miss seeing color. It has been white for a while now.
