Snow, No Vodka

Taken around midnight last night. It has snowed a lot since then.

I am in awe of nature. I am. I am in awe of our busy atmosphere swirling and moving around us and above us - and in us every time we breathe. I am thunderstruck with amazement at the way the oceans get mixed up with the sky and then somehow, miraculously fall back to earth as small six sided crystals.

The snow continues to fall. It is truly incredible.

My plans for today include trudging through the white stuff to take pictures, shoveling, of course. I'll also spend a lot of time today metabolizing all the wine I drank while we played Tripoli with the neighbors last night. Somehow, I was on a winning streak, something that never happens to me. Winning is fun, who knew?

OK. A little bit too much fun, perhaps. Today I'm paying the price, but I'm not remorseful. I see why people who live in Russia drink so much and I also now understand, for the first time in my life, why people like to play games. I get it.

  1. You are so lucky. ABC just reported you'll receive 30" when it's all said and done. I know you guys aren't equipped to handle it but could you send some our way? Our ski areas are in need...

    beautiful photos btw.

  2. Look at all that snow! Love the mental image of the oceans getting mixed up with the sky and falling back to earth as snowflakes.

  4. We have over a foot, so far. Really heavy, wet snow. (When WT was in the former USSR in the late 80s they used vodka to clean ice off their windshields.)

    Sure is beautiful!

  7. It's spectacular here, as well. I'm waiting for it to stop so that I can take the toddler and the dog out to play. I've been told it's perfect snowman snow.

Enjoy playing today-and shoveling. That's a chore I'm happy to pass on to my husband! I'll look forward to the photos you take.

  11. The pictures are fantastic, Reya. Absolutely beautiful. In fact they make me yearn for the snows we used to get, but haven't this year.

I wouldn't even mind shoveling the driveway if the scenery were this beautiful.

  13. It looks so beautiful and I'm so happy to look out my window on a relatively warm and snow-free day. But I am thinking about the hush, the squeaking of boot soles against the snow, the way little flakes decorate your eyelashes, how noses begin to run in the cold. And how the Metro always stops working.

  17. Beautiful pic...you guys got hammered. We had rain (I think like 4 inches) for over 24 hours and now had turned to heavy snow which is just starting to stick. I'd rather just look at pics than deal with the snow.

  18. Cool snow, Reya!
We live and learn maybe all about the Russian experience!

Board games are a good way to interact with friends.
    Send more snow pics.

  19. "Vodka, no snow" is better than "Snow, no vodka."

  22. Can't wait to see more pics of "Snowage." Thanks for linking the album. How did you get such clearly lit night shots? Loved the picture of the standing nickles.

    Stay warm.

  23. I use photoshop to brighten and add contrast to all my pics. Otherwise they would all be grey and lifeless.
