This morning I'm flipping the switch on the time machine from Lost Loves to March 5, 2009, setting my intention to arrive in the present moment no later than 9:45 a.m. since today is my first day in the office on Farragut Square.
I'll be busy with clients, but not so busy that I won't have some time to walk around, get acquainted with the neighborhood. I'm very excited. For those who don't know, Farragut Square is as downtown as you can get in Washington DC. The building in which I'll be working is on K Street, the infamous location of countless richly appointed offices in which lobbyists and other power mongers do their mongering. Is that a verb? In terms of atmosphere, it couldn't be less like the vibe on Capitol Hill, my small, friendly village. Cool, eh? I think so.
Reflecting on the past is a good thing, absolutely necessary in order to heal, and always lots of fun, too. As much fun, at least for me, is bringing all of myself into the here and now, in order to find out what's unfolding right in front of my face. Onwards & upwards? Oh yeah!

See the moon? Why is it blue?
Best wishes on life in your new office. Love the pictures, especially the reflections in melting snow.
ReplyDeleteReya,
ReplyDeleteGood luck today, a new chapter with a new office and things to look forward to. Onward and upward is right!
Kim
Good luck and have a great day in your new office. The photos are great. Love the red brick reflected in the water. Yes ... onward & upward ... or as the bumper stickers in Austin say "onward through the fog".
ReplyDeleteI grew up in a house on K Street, in a small town in Oklahoma... Such fond memories from there...learning to ride my bike, singing on my front porch from a recipe book and having neighbors clap for me as they piled in their car (which made me get really embarrassed!), playing in my favorite backyard ever where my imagination would run wild, loving Queen's hit song "Another One Bites the Dust" while I lived there... ahhh to dream of K Street!
ReplyDeleteOk, I'll stop now...I know your K Street is not the same! But thanks for triggering my memories!
Monger is a wonderful verb. I wish we used it more often, but there are so many words to choose from it's hard to get them all in motion.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the beautiful pictures, and language to match.
Have fun in the new office! Can't wait to see the photographic results of your wandering in that part of town! :)
ReplyDeleteThe first couple of years I was in DC, I worked at Farragut Square, at Connecticut and K. I really enjoyed it. I think you will, too. Best of luck in the new atmosphere!
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the 'hood, girlfrenn!
ReplyDeleteWe're not all lobbyists and button-down rodents over here--Some of us are charmingly cynical outsider fruitcakes who appreciate the sudden tilt towards POSITIVE on the human vibe-o-meter!
Did that make sense?
What?
Congrats on your new digs! I work a few blocks from there. It's an interesting part of town, to be sure.
ReplyDeleteContratulations and hooray! A new beginning of sorts.
ReplyDeleteOnly the best of luck to you!
Have fun stormin' the castle. I would say good luck, but I think you make your own luck.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your explorations, and as Steve said, can't wait for photos from this part of town.
ReplyDeleteI think this is the ol' "Once in a Blue Moon." Kinda makes me want to sing "Blue Moon."
ReplyDeleteGood Luck with the new job! The top photo reminds me of Water Street ( ha ha ) my little sister lives on Water. (Doesn't that sound weird?) street I mean...
ReplyDeleteAll the very best to you in your new venture. Your photos as ususal are stunning. I love the reflection. Have a wonderful day.
ReplyDeleteSmiles
I love that first photo. Can I say it again? I love that first photo!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your new surroundings.
i'll have to ask my school teacher wife if she has passed through Farragut Square in her travels with students; sounds a bit off the traveled path, nice. This reflection shot is one of your best..what a talented eye ... and i think the moon is blue because it is lonely: so far away, alone, and drifting further every year...
ReplyDeleteMrs. E - YES!! Once in a blue moon! Duh! Thank you.
ReplyDeleteIntangible, yes of course it makes sense. I didn't feel like anyone I saw from the window in my office was a buttoned down rodent. People looked busy, that's all.
Nice flip of the switch into present time. Curious to hear about your new work world. And the moon got to be blue because that was the color of crayon God(dess) had in the backpack that day.
ReplyDeleteOh happy day! New place to play! Looking forward to more pics of your new adventure playground. Best wishes for a great day in your new office Reya.Stunning blue by the way.
ReplyDeleteI hope your presence brings some healing to the rats on K Street.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the new office. I'm looking forward to seeing what your new perspective brings our way.
ReplyDeleteImages that are thoughtful and and original I suspect.
So maybe I should be congratulating us on our good fortune?
rats....did merle say you will be working with rats - not nearly as nice as mice, but they are quite clever
ReplyDeletehope u dig the new digs.....onward and up!!!!
Bon Voyage to K St
ReplyDelete'Mongering', yeah, definitely a verb. That sky is so blue that it hurts my feelings :-).
ReplyDeleteGreetings from London.
i'm late here.. hope that your first day went extremely well! that moon photo is just absolutely fantastic - it has made my day, thank you!
ReplyDeleteBeen having trouble getting on all day, so hopefully this goes through.
ReplyDeleteI hope you had a great day at your new work place. Did you see a lot of new things around the neighborhood. Will you let us know which pictures are from that area.
The blue in that picture is so beautiful. Mr. Moon knew that it was such a beautiful color that he wanted to join in too. It was such a nice picture. Kinda a yen and yang with the two pictures.
Thank you again. God Bless.
all sounds very exciting and those photos are awesome! best of luck with it all :-)
ReplyDeleteSmoke and dust particles to be literal, but it's most often used to describe the "oddity" of two full moons in one month; hence "Once in a blue moon, (meaning twice.) Our next blue moon is December 31, 2009.
ReplyDeleteThe statue of Farragut! (Looking so phallic and torpedoe-ish indeed.)
ReplyDeleteIt is interesting that this is the neighborhood of thrusting politicos. Perhaps it will bring out a kind of vigour in you, too?
Yes, Bee, what a good intention to set for myself! Thank you!
